The tile look refreshes the Office look: Microsoft is also consistently implementing the familiar Metro look in Office 2016. The "Modern Style UI" provides a tidy new design in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, Outlook & Co. The interface is white, but each application has its own color code. The colors, used discreetly, are based on the predecessor: Word is blue, Excel is green, PowerPoint is red and so on. The menu bars appear more angular, but are also more generously designed, with more space between the individual buttons.
The user interfaces of the individual applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) look very structured and the first impression is consistently positive. The ribbon is deactivated by default; instead, the familiar categories "File", "Edit", "View" etc. are displayed in a narrow bar at the top. Their contents are only expanded by clicking on a small arrow symbol at the top right of the menu bar. Overall, the Metro interface cuts a surprisingly good figure in all Office applications; everything looks clear and intuitive.
As Office 2016 is also being developed for tablet PCs, one development focus is on optimizing operation for touchscreens. In a separate mode, operation with finger input has been made easier, for example by enlarging the touch surfaces. The virtual keyboard has also been optimized for this purpose. The full integration of Microsoft SkyDrive makes it easier to synchronize documents between different end devices. This allows you to merge documents that you have created on your home computer or on your tablet into one account.
